Scotland Rugby Union

Scotland Six Nations Rugby History

Scotland were one of the founding members of the home nation’s tournament but for long periods have really struggled to hold their own with their success rate no where near as positive as the other main teams in the home nations.

We can establish that Scottish rugby got off the ground with a victory over England in 1871 and then two years later the Scottish Union got off the ground and is a founding member of the Five/Six nations and it has won it or shared it over 20 times with the latest victory in 2000.

Having participated in the Six Nations since its inception Scotland has only achieved the ultimate of the Grand Slam a total of three times in 1925, 1984 and 1990.

Murrayfield is the home of Scottish Rugby with a capacity of just under 70,000 but they have managed to get over 100,000 people into the ground in the early days.

Top Scottish players include, Gavin Hastings, Gregor Townsend and Chris Patterson.
