A drop-goal by Andrea Marcato's was enough to secured a first 2008 Six Nations victory for Italy against Scotland in the final game of the tournament.
Scotland led 17-10 at half-time after converted tries from Allister Hogg and Mike Blair cancelled out an early penalty try for Italy. In the second half, Gonzalo Canale scored a try to level the scores before penalties for both team set up a thrilling finsih.
A drop goal in the last minutes from Marcato was enough to secure the victory for Italy but but the margin of victory was enough for Scotland to avoid the Wooden Spoon as Itlay still finished bottom of the table.
