England recorded their first victory of the 2008 Six Nations with a 23-19 points win against Italy in Rome. However, the performance was far from convincing as England were left hanging in in the later stages of the game following a below par second half display.
England got off to a great start with two quick tries from Paul Sackey and Toby Flood before Jonny Wilkinson made history when he kicked his 1,000th point for England, in the process of adding 10 points to England's score.
Despite leading 20-6 at half time, England managed to allow Italy back in to the game, conceding several penalties, Bortolussi converted four to claw Italy back in to the game and a Simon Picone try made for a nervous last few minutes for England fans, who thankfully did not have to suffer a second defeat as their side hung on to register the win.
