Ireland v Italy

Saturday, 2nd February 2008 - 2:00 pm
Croke Park

Whilst Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan was happy with his side getting off to a winning start in the 2008 Six Nations Tournament, he wasn’t too happy with the manner in which his Ireland side got their victory.

Ireland looked far from convincing throughout the game, managing only one try early on in the game, with the remainder of their points coming from O’Gara’s boot. Nothing should be taken away from Italy though, who showed real battling qualities to come within three points of Ireland in the second half. However, the Irish remained strong to win this hard fought game.

Judging from this performance, Italy will be no push over in this year’s competition and will be relishing welcoming England to Rome in their next game whilst Ireland must improve if they are to get anything from their next game against France.
